Gary is a founding partner of Birchmere Ventures where he focuses on investing in early stage technology and life sciences companies. He is a current or past director of Advanced Software Applications, Be Here Corporation, Cerebellum Software, Compucare, Metabolex, Paradigm Software, Precision Therapeutics, and Renal Solutions. He is also past president of the Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association, founder and past president of the 3 Rivers Venture Fair, past president of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth, past president of the Pittsburgh Chapter of Financial Executives International, director of St. Clair Hospital, director of Sculptor Development (a subsidiary of St. Clair Hospital), and past director of the Regional Development Funding Corporation. Gary is also a frequent guest lecturer at several local universities.

Gary has over 25 years of experience in financial management, investing, lending, and public accounting. Gary began his career at Price Waterhouse where he provided audit and consulting services to companies in a variety of industries. During this time, he was the creator, editor, and major contributing author of Buying and Selling a Business, a Price Waterhouse guide for executives of emerging, growing, and middle-market companies. Further, Gary spent five years with Westinghouse Credit Corporation where he held various positions in lending, investing, and controller capacities. He was a deal maker leading investments in excess of $200 million in a number of later-stage company financings. Later he became VP/Controller of various investment portfolios totaling in excess of $5 billion.

Gary holds an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and a B.S. from John Carroll University. Gary is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
